Be the Match & Icla da Silva
The NMDP - National Marrow Donor Program is the sole federally funded and Congressionally authorized stem cell registry in the United States. Since its foundation in 1986 through December 3, 2007, the NMDP celebrated 30,000 successful transplants and is today the world largest registry of potential bone marrow or cord blood transplant donors.
The Icla da Silva Foundation is proud to share the NMDP success. In the last 16 years the Foundation has grown to become one the largest recruitment organizations for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), helping to create a more ethnic diverse registry.
As an affiliated recruitment group and donor center focused on minority volunteer donors, the Foundation runs over 650 drives each year and has enlisted over 72,000 (13,000 in 2007) potential bone marrow donors. The Icla da Silva Foundation provides outreach/ educational programs to many communities and offers logistical, emotional and financial support to patients and families all over the world.
Seventy percent of patients suffering from leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases won’t find a suitable match within their own family, that's why every day an average of 6,000 people search the NMDP and seeks support from the Icla da Silva Foundation to find donor.
The Icla da Silva Foundation goal is to connect more and more ethnic diverse patients to possible volunteer non-related bone marrow or cord blood transplant donors increasing their hope and chances of survival.
