To host a drive, follow
the following steps:
1. The organization/club contacts The Icla da Silva
Foundation.
2. The organization/club learns about marrow donation.
3. The organization/club arrange the location where the
drive will take place and provides the information to
the Foundation with the date and time of the drive.
4. The Icla da Silva Foundation will provide all the flyers,
brochures, posters, newsletter, and articles to the organization/club.
5. At the day of the drive, potential donors consent to
be on the national registry.
6. Potential donors are screened by their health history.
7. A licensed phlebotomist draws a small blood sample.
Components of a Successful Drive
Education. Joining the NMDP is strictly voluntary.
A well-informed participant understands the donor process
and is willing to become a donor for any patient searching
the registry. A donor remains in the registry until their
61st birthday. Donor and patient identity is confidential.
Outreach. The Icla da Silva Foundation is available
to give presentations to organizations/clubs. The Icla
da Silva Foundation can also train interested volunteers
from the host organization/club to help with the drive.
The host organization/club can help coordinate the distribution
of information a nd materials.
Drive Publicity. Educational materials such
as flyers, brochures, posters, newsletter, and articles
are available from The Icla da Silva Foundation. The drive
is publicized by the host organization and The Icla da
Silva Foundation.
Drive Logistics. The host organization and
The Icla da Silva Foundation coordinator arrange a suitable
location to hold the drive, necessary equipment such as
tables and chairs, and set-up of the drive site. The Icla
da Silva Foundation arranges for a licensed phlebotomist
to take blood samples and supervises all aspects of the
drive.
